Students are able to investigate rock and mineral samples for aggregates and strength. The students would be able to investigate with the camera mounted on an X-Y bed with some precision and view the samples.
The rig consists of a zoom-able webcam mounted on a stepper motor-driven frame which permits the camera to be located anywhere in a 2 dimensional space using a web user interface. Narrow trays containing the rock and mineral samples are located within the camera's field of view so that students can move the camera to a sample of interest and perform observations of the sample. The trays are not fixed and can be easily exchanged to show different sample sets.
