This rig is designed as a flexible platform for the visualisation of the effect of various vertical and transverse loads on simplified model structures.

The Structural visualisation rig consists of a carousel, 4 different models representing simplified buildings mounted on the carousel and a pneumatic mechanism capable of rotating the carousel backwards and forwards by 90 degrees. Pneumatic cylinders and masses are used to apply force to the models and two cameras are used to view the resulting deflections. The models themselves are rectangular structures made of flexible acrylics strips approximately 10mm wide with either hinged or fixed vertices. The models can be changed to accommodate different kinds of structure. The initial set includes 4 basic structures; all joints free with bracing, all joints fixed, all bottom and 1 top fixed and all top and 1 bottom fixed.
